Venue: Käthe-Kollwitz Museum Berlin

Wieland Förster (born 1930) is one of the important German sculptors of the postwar period. He lived through the bombing of his home city of Dresden and was imprisoned at the infamous Lager Bautzen II as young man. These experiences imbued Förster’s work with suffering. The power of his work is shown in his ability to transcend these experiences and break free from clichés, a power that he and Kollwitz shared. Presented in cooperation with the Wieland Förster Foundation at Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden and the Kleist-Museum Frankfurt/Oder.
