    Charles Le Brun est pour toujours associé à Louis XIV et au faste de son règne. Le XVIIe siècle voit alors l’art français briller à son zénith, astre égal au suzerain solaire. Car le goût du roi pour la magnificence ne peut souffrir les petitesses d’ambition, et Louis XIV n’est point avare de moyens pour s’assurer l’immortalité par les arts, tel les antiques pharaons amassant richesses et compagnie dans leurs futurs tombeaux. Le Brun, en tant que Premier peintre du Roi, peint selon le bon plaisir du monarque. Louis XIV est son mécène, son patron et sa muse, au point qu’il ne peint presque plus rien en dehors des royales…
