Son intérêt pour l’art est surprenant pour un employé de banque et plus encore pour un ancien marin. De toute évidence, cet attrait découle directement de l’atmosphère qui régnait chez Gustave Arosa. Passionné de peinture et de photographie, ce dernier possédait une collection de tableaux de tout premier ordre, et était aussi l’ami de Nadar, caricaturiste et photographe, celui-là même qui prêta son atelier aux Impressionnistes pour y organiser leur première exposition.       Der untenstehende Text ist ein Auszug aus dem Paul Gauguin von Jp. A. Calosse, herausgegeben von Parkstone International. Gauguin war ein leidenschaftlicher Liebhaber von Malerei und Photographie, verfügte über eine ausgezeichnete Gemäldesammlung und war der Freund von Nadar, eines Karikaturisten und Photographen, der seine Werkstatt für die erste Ausstellung der Impressionisten zur Verfügung stellte. Möglicherweise spielte bei der Entstehung dieser Leidenschaft auch der Umstand eine gewisse Rolle, dass es von seiten seiner Mutter in der Verwandtschaft zwei Künstler gegeben hatte: einer war Zeichenlehrer, der andere Lithograph und Graveur. The only thing that set Gauguin apart from others of his circle was his unorthodox interest in art.
