Ce fut le mouvement muraliste, à partir des années 1920, fortement lié à la révolution mexicaine de la décennie précédente, à partir de laquelle de grands artistes comme José Clémente Orozco, David Alfaro Siqueiros et Diego Rivera ont émergé. Rarement l'art a été plus politique.
