    Shelley’s Art Scandal – Spotlight on Allen Jones

    During the 60s, Jones worked on the three pieces of art which gained him the controversial notoriety which he is known for. These were “Chair”, “Table” and “Hat Stand”. These are sculptures which were designed by Jones, then cast in clay, finally finished by a company that made mannequins. Each set of three were duplicated six times, which were completed in 1969.

    J’ai une tendresse particulière pour les femmes de Rubens. Elles sont confortables à l’œil, leur chair sans apprêt. Avec leurs seins lourds et leurs cuisses larges, elles nous donnent le sentiment de pouvoir accueillir l’humanité. Pour une génération d’hommes confrontés aux formes d’une Twiggy (top modèle anglais des années 60), ou des tops modèles de la haute-couture, quelle divine surprise que les femmes puissent être autre que filiformes, grandes et sèches ! Voici quelques années, le magazine Elle faisait sa une avec Emmanuelle Béart. Même les féministes saluèrent cette nouvelle Vénus.
