    El movimiento prerrafaelita es a la pintura lo que la narrativa gótica a la literatura. No coinciden plenamente en el tiempo pero sí en el espíritu, no en vano estos artistas del siglo XIX comparten los ideales del Romanticismo respecto a la sinceridad del arte y la utilización de la naturaleza para expresar ideas. Cualquiera que, siendo adolescente, haya observado Ofelia de Millais, se habrá visto transportado al ambiente romántico que el cuadro desprende y que recuerda a los bosques de Frankenstein de Mary Shelley.
