There are some people out there who feel that art has a healing quality, whether it be for the artist or the audience, this can be through a series of techniques working from art therapy to the exploration of taboo subjects. When you look at art throughout the ages, there is nothing quite so extravagant as the late renaissance moving through to the Baroque period. The artwork is indulgent and highly detailed, with every aspect of the frame covered. Rembrandt was known as a master of this field, producing elaborate self-portraits and depictions of biblical scenes embedded his name in the art world for the ages. There is something decadently elegant about the Art Nouveau movement. Removed from the academic and classical styles which were so readily seen at the turn of the century, this style had a freedom and flow which had an underlying statement of love and beauty. The curvaceous forms and looping lines of the style accentuate the pieces and lent itself to not just retinal artwork, but home design and architectural displays. When thinking about Greek myths, or any myths, legends or religion for that matter, you probably have some very defined ideas of what the characters in those stories look like. For example, if I were writing about Zeus, you would probably be thinking of an aging yet muscular, bearded man, with a thunderbolt in one hand and an animal of some kind around him. I am a huge fan of Greek art and mythology, and really the two things go hand in hand. The mythology element helped shape many of the stories and language that we still know and use today and the artworks heavily influenced art movements in the western world, so it would make sense for any art lover to have, at least a rudimentary understanding of both.
