     Exhibition: The Art of Pastel From Degas to Redon Date: 15 September 2017 – 8 April 2018 Venue: Le Petit Palais  Edgar Degas was closest to Pierre-Auguste Renoir in the Impressionist’s circle, for both favoured the animated Parisian life of their day as a motif in their paintings. Degas did not attend Charles Gleyre’s studio; most likely he first met the future Impressionists at the Café Guerbois. It is not known exactly where he met Édouard Manet. Perhaps they were introduced to one another by a mutual friend, the engraver Félix Bracquemond, or perhaps Manet, struck by Degas’ audacity, first spoke to him at the Louvre in 1862. Two months…

    La Petite Danseuse de Degas – Réalisme et réalité

    L’œuvre trône dans l’une des galeries du musée d’Orsay, dans une vitrine. Elle mesure environ un mètre de haut, et représente une jeune danseuse. Il s’agit bien entendu de la Petite Danseuse de 14 ans, réalisée par Edgard Degas dans les années 1880. Œuvre célèbrissime dans la carrière du maître généralement qualifié d’impressionniste, elle détone pourtant du reste de sa production par son réalisme dérangeant. Une sculpture d’un genre nouveau Lorsque Degas présente l’œuvre à l’exposition des impressionnistes de 1881, la seule sculpture qu’il exposera jamais d’ailleurs, elle fait scandale.
