Walls crumble, Voices rise: The Storming of the Bastille

The French National Day is the anniversary of the Storming of the Bastille on 14 July 1789. This pivotal event marked the beginning of the French Revolution, symbolizing the people’s uprising against absolute monarchy and the fight for liberty, equality, and fraternity.

The fall of the Bastille, a royal fortress and prison, became a powerful emblem of resistance and the collective will for change. Today, Bastille Day is celebrated across France with military parades, fireworks, music, and festivities – honoring both a historic moment and the enduring spirit of the Republic.
