    Good Morning, Mr. Bakst

    …is probably what the French writer and poet Jean Cocteau said as he awoke and rolled off of Belarusian artist Leon Bakst in a probably not one-off, ‘I’ll try anything once’ tryst behind the set of Le Dieu bleu. The two met on the set of Sergey Diaghilev’s 1910 play, Le Dieu bleu, with Cocteau writing the libretto and Bakst creating the highly applauded set and costume design.     Der Drogenkonsum vieler Künstler ist ein offenes Geheimnis. Was oftmals als Quelle der Inspiration oder als reiner Zeitvertreib zum bloßen Vergnügen beginnt, endet für viele in der Abhängigkeit und der finalen Katastrophe. Es wäre müßig, die Namen der zahlreichen Künstler aufzuzählen, die den Drogentod gestorben sind. Viele darunter ließen sich nicht nur von der Wirkung des Rausches inspirieren, sondern verarbeiteten ihren Drogenmissbrauch thematisch in ihren Werken. Der französische Schriftsteller, Maler und Regisseur Jean Cocteau schildert in seinem Journal d’une désintoxication (‚Opium/Ein Tagebuch‘) aus dem Jahr 1930 seine Opiumsucht während eines Entzugsaufenthalts von 1928 in einer Klinik in Saint-Cloud.
