Oh nostalgia, when you take possession of our senses, there is no escape!

    February 8, 2022 / 0 Comments

Erotic photo art has lost much of its exquisite soul since Playboy and other girlie monthlies repackaged the human body for mass-market consumption. Like much painting, sculpture and engraving, since its beginning photography has also been at the service of eroticism.

Picasso censored! No more breasts in his paintings

    May 18, 2015 / 0 Comments

I am not surprised Fox has censored Picasso’s breasts. It is absurd and creepy to blur out the bosoms of his Women of Algiers in a report on the painting that set a new world record this week. But it is not completely impossible to understand, because if you were a puritan or a fundamentalist or just hated women’s bodies, Picasso’s breasts are the kind of breasts you might find shocking. Picasso is definitely one of the all-time great artists of the breast. His only rivals are the 16th-century painter Titian, whose Venus of Urbino certainly has some nice nipples, and the 17th-century adorer of buxom wenches Peter Paul Rubens,…

    The Naked Truth

    October 31, 2013 / 0 Comments

Art exhibits our fascinations and preoccupations- what we think about, are intrigued by, and want to look at.  Ever since the earliest cave paintings, the human body has been a constant subject in art.  We might all have one, but that doesn’t stop us from being interested in everyone else’s.  But just because it’s natural doesn’t mean there aren’t rules.  Society decided (or was it Adam and Eve?) that it just wasn’t on to go around showing off everything that God gave us.  And so the fig leaves were slapped on the sculptures, Venus’ flowing locks doubled as a convenient pair of knickers and photographers learnt the art of strategic…

    The Man who Loved Women

    August 2, 2013 / 0 Comments

Sex sells. Or at least in today’s society, the marketing world strategically incorporates erotic imagery in advertisements to gain consumers’ attention. If the moniker “sex sells” is true for advertisements, could it also be true in art? In nude paintings, does the artist aim to “sell” something by enticing us with the image of a naked and supple body? When looking through Felix Vallotton’s artistic catalog, the amount of nudity is great. Vallotton used naked women in any context, from nude women bathing to nude women playing with kittens. Vallotton, like most artists, appreciated beauty, including the beauty of the naked human body. But while the artist might have seen…

    The Naked Truth

    December 18, 2012 / 2 Comments

At first this topic had my mind atwitter; I mean how often does a girl get to write about naked men outside of her bedroom? Not that I believe there’s anything particularly aesthetically pleasing about the male physique below the happy/snail/treasure trail; maybe I’m a sucker for a nice bum, but that’s not what we’re here to discuss. Nor do I spend my private time writing about nude male bodies, and even if I did, you couldn’t prove it. Given the opportunity to pick famous men I wouldn’t mind seeing naked, I would say: Channing Tatum? Yes, please. Donald Glover? Abso-freaking-lutely. Joseph Gordon Levitt? Please and thank you. John Cho-know-I-would.…
