Das Phänomen Schwarzer Soldaten in den nationalen Armeen der westlichen Welt zeugt beispielhaft von der Diskriminierung dieser Bevölkerungsgruppe in der Gesellschaft. In Europa waren es die aus den Kolonien stammenden Afrikaner, in Amerika die Nachfahren der Sklavengenerationen, die trotz amerikanischer Staatsbürgerschaft noch immer als Amerikaner zweiter Klasse betrachtet wurden. Gerade in der Kriegspropaganda, wo einfache Botschaften den nationalen Zusammenhalt stärken sollten, wird der Graben zwischen Anspruch und Wirklichkeit deutlich.
