Arcimboldo: Die große “ABBUFFATA”: Eine italienische Tradition Von Arcimboldo bis Marc Ferrari

    November 21, 2017 / 0 Comments

Oktober 2017 — 11. März 2018 Museum: The Musée Saint Léger in Soissons, France.

Arcimboldo: La Grande “ABBUFFATA”: Une Tradition Italienne D’Arcimboldo à Marc Ferrari

    November 17, 2017 / 0 Comments

Arcimboldo: The Great “ABBUFFATA”: An Italian Tradition From Arcimboldo to Marc Ferrari

    November 16, 2017 / 0 Comments

Exhibition: La grande bouffe : peintures comiques dans l’Italie de la Renaissance Date: October 28, 2017 – March, 11, 2018 Venue: The Musée Saint Léger in Soissons, France. Arcimboldo (1527 – 1593) Son of the artist Biagio Arcimboldo and Chiara Parisi, Giuseppe Arcimboldo was born in Milan in 1527. Of noble descent, Arcimboldo‘s family originated from the south of Germany, with some family members relocating to Lombardy during the Middle Ages. Numerous variations of the spelling of the family name can be found: Acimboldi, Arisnbodle, Arcsimbaldo, Arzimbaldo, or Arczimboldo; the ‘boldo’ or ‘baldo’ suffix is a mediaeval Germanic derivative. Likewise, Arcimboldo signed his first name in several different ways: Giuseppe,…

    Arcimboldo (Mega Square)

    November 14, 2017 / 0 Comments

Arcimboldo (Mega Square) Author: Liana De Girolami Cheney If, as the famous saying goes, you really are what you eat, then Giuseppe Arcimboldo (1527-1593) was a consummate painter of the human soul. This artist was a master draftsman whose finely wrought canvases captured the imagination of his generation. In this fascinating book, Liana De Girolami Cheney takes a closer look at the critical history of Arcimboldo’s work, from his initial popularity and the tragic obscurity that followed his death, to the ventual triumphant revival of his work and vision by Surrealist admirers of the 1920s. Book specifications: Mega Square collection, 145 x 162 mm / 5.7 x 6.4 in., 256…

    Arcimboldo’s Artistic Harvest

    January 23, 2015 / 0 Comments

I have never imagined, whilst gazing at a bowl of fruit, that its contents could ever resemble anything like a human face. Making a remotely artistic connection between food and painting would take me back first to potato-printing in primary school, advancing perhaps to a somewhat more sophisticated ‘Still life of pear and mug,’ created in my later school years. Giuseppe Arcimboldo saw things differently, which is of course not a huge surprise! Although perhaps his fruity infatuation stemmed from similar beginnings… Arcimboldo, born in 1527, and most famed for his imaginative portrait heads in which he uses various fruit and veg to render his often esteemed subjects, began his…
