‘New Rembrandt’ to be unveiled in Amsterdam
Portrait is not a lost work by Dutch master but a 3D printed painting made by software that distilled the features of a Rembrandt. If people think the portrait of a 17th-century thirtysomething man in black hat and white collar looks unmistakably like a Rembrandt, then Bas Korsten will be a happy man. The painting’s true creators are, however, data analysts and computers. On Tuesday in Amsterdam, an artwork called “the Next Rembrandt” will be unveiled for the first time. Just outside Amsterdam there lives an old, well-known, and respected Dutch painter. He has worked hard throughout his life—but he has only produced, as far as the world knows, a few drawings and one large canvas which is in the National Museum.
