    Vincent Van Gogh: A man of many talents…and many mysteries.  Here’s a small list of ‘did you know…?’: That he was a teacher? That he was a missionary? That he was a late-bloomer, artistically?  (He didn’t start painting until his late-twenties.)     Aunque a veces nos encontremos con alguna que otra lechuga vestida de frac, los seres humanos somos seres vivos, es decir, nacemos, crecemos, nos reproducimos y morimos, según nos enseñan entre suma y suma. Así, el ciclo vital de una persona, de cada uno de nosotros, se cumple desde el nacimiento hasta la muerte; no obstante, si algo nos caracteriza con respecto a otros seres vivientes es que, además de la memoria genética (y quizá la transferencia de información cultural de la memética), compartimos una memoria histórica colectiva que nos permite recordar a otros humanos que nacieron, crecieron, tal vez se reprodujeron y murieron antes que nosotros.     En regardant les trois tableaux ci-dessous, le lien qui les unit est difficile à envisager au premier coup d’œil. En matière de peinture de paysage, Van Gogh et Böcklin pourraient-ils être plus éloignés l’un de l’autre ? Des courbes douces à la rigueur stérile… Que s’est-il passé entre temps ?     Le symbolisme est passé par là. Mouvement de l’imagination, de la poésie, de l’émotion. Mais je dirais aussi de l’isolement, des couleurs tristes et un peu morbides. Qui, étant d’humeur normale, voudrait se promener dans les paysages d’Odilon Redon ou d’Arnold Böcklin, paysages ternes dans lesquels les personnages ont toujours l’air mélancoliques.     Als Sammler, Mäzen und Initiator von durch ihn mitfinanzierten und mitorganisierten Ausstellungen hat er seine zeitgenössischen Künstlerkollegen unterstützt und gleichzeitig selber Hunderte Gemälde geschaffen, was ihn zu einer der bedeutendsten Persönlichkeiten des französischen Impressionismus macht. Die Rede ist von Gustav Caillebotte (1848-1894), der trotz all seiner Mühen, den Impressionismus zu fördern, nahezu in Vergessenheit geraten ist. Caillebotte kam im Jahr der Französischen Revolution zur Welt und lebte in einer Zeit der gesellschaftlichen Umbrüche, die neue Verfassung, die Industrialisierung, die Verstädterung, der Preußisch-Französische Krieg – es waren turbulente Zeiten, in die er hinein geboren wurde.
