Alphonse Mucha dans le magnifique Art Nouveau

    July 23, 2021 / 0 Comments

Alphonse Mucha in the gorgeous Art Nouveau

    July 20, 2021 / 0 Comments

Art Nouveau was known to insiders as the “Mucha style” for the legions of imitators who adapted the master’s celebrated tableaux. Today, his distinctive depictions of lithe young women in classical dress have become a pop cultural touchstone, inspiring album covers, comic books, and everything in between.

Apocalypse (English Version) – Camille Flammarion

    April 20, 2021 / 0 Comments

The final book of the Bible, known both as The Book of Revelation and The Apocalypse of John, is a prophesy of the events that will occur at the end of time. This book pools the most famous pieces of art inspired by this theme, such as the Apocalypse drapery from Angers Cathedral, the carved tympanum of the Autun Cathedral, and the fresco in Albi Cathedral.

    Impressions du monde flottant

    April 28, 2016 / 0 Comments

    No Room in Hollywood

    October 22, 2013 / 0 Comments

There is no doubt that Hollywood dominates the global film industry. Occasionally, popular films from other countries gain international notoriety like the French film Amélie or the Swedish film Let the Right One In, but those are rare instances. While the United States dominates the film industry, the rest of the world, mainly Europe, dominates in art. The U.S. does have renowned artists but not as renowned as Europe.  Even as an American, I find it difficult to name fellow artistic countrymen, but I can easily rattle off several European artists. Edward Hopper, painter of the Nighthawks, is a celebrated American painter, but his international repute is an iota of…

Art from the Land of the Rising Sun

    April 2, 2013 / 1 Comment

Japan, in comparison with many other countries, is rather small, though it ranks tenth amongst the world’s highest populations. More fascinatingly, it has one of the richest and most eclectic art histories to speak of when considering it on its own. Yes, various countries in Europe do this or that, and Africa has a slew of artistic variety, but we’re just talking one country – 6852 islands, if you really want to talk about how amazing Japan’s universally-acknowledged solidarity is. Continuously infiltrated by other powers (China, Russia, Germany’s money, and the United States), art in Japan has successfully maintained a focused and healthy presence in the art world since the…
