Shelley’s Art Musings – Voluptuous Women in Art

    August 14, 2020 / 0 Comments

What you probably don’t imagine is a much curvier woman, who has love handles and stretch marks.  She doesn’t have the perfect thigh gap, in fact there is probably no gap at all, and her breasts are probably not as perky as you imagined the first woman’s to be.  You probably are not thinking that her clothes are a pulling on her hips and that she might look less than perfect. Of course, I might be casting a massive aspersion here, and making the assumption that is how everyone would picture the perfect woman, simply because this is how the media portrays women, to a rather unhealthy level.  Women and…

Rubens: Der geistliche Vater von Botero

    February 2, 2018 / 0 Comments

Ausstellung: “Rubens. The Power of Transformation” Datum: Feb 8 − May 28, 2018 Museum: Stadel Museum Helene Fourment, Im Brautkleid, um 1630.

    January 31, 2018 / 0 Comments

Rubens: The Spiritual Father of Botero

    January 10, 2018 / 0 Comments

Exhibition: Rubens. The Power of Transformation Date: Feb 8 − May 28, 2018 Venue: Stadel Museum The Life and Works of Peter Paul Rubens The name of the great 17th century Flemish painter, Peter Paul Rubens is known throughout the world. The importance of his contribution to the development of European culture is generally recognised. The perception of life that he revealed in his pictures is so vivid, and fundamental human values are affirmed in them with such force, that we look upon Rubens’ paintings as a living aesthetic reality of our own time as well. The museums of Russia have a superb collection of the great Flemish painter’s works.…

Barocky – Wie Peter Paul Rubens Rambo schuf

    October 3, 2016 / 0 Comments

    June 30, 2016 / 0 Comments

    Photoshopping and Photobombing…Peter Paul Rubens-Style!

    October 4, 2012 / 0 Comments

When I open any magazine these days, I look at the photos of waif-like women with perfect skin, hair and teeth, without a jot of cellulite to be seen, and it’s what I expect to see.  I admit it!  The world of mass media has done its work very well indeed.  There is perhaps a handful of women who may be naturally blessed with the genetic make-up to look as flawless as those pictured on billboards without the help of Photoshop.   And that’s just it; technology such as Photoshop gives me expectations.  If I were to see an ad with the models remaining unaltered, I would be surprised.  It’s human…

Peter Paul Rubens oder Die Kunst der Werbung

    September 13, 2012 / 0 Comments
