    Das Bauhaus

    April 19, 2019 / 0 Comments

    Paul Klee: Swiss? or German?

    August 29, 2017 / 0 Comments

Paul Klee was born in 1879, in Münchenbuchsee, Switzerland, and grew up within a family of musicians. Instead of following his musical roots he chose to study art at the Munich Academy. However, his childhood love of music always remained important in his life and work. In 1911, Klee met Alexej Jawlensky, Wassily Kandinsky, August Macke , Franz Marc , and other avant-garde figures and participated in important shows of avant-garde art, including the second Blaue Reiter exhibition at Galerie Hans Goltz, Munich, in 1912. Primitive art, Surrealism and Cubism, all seem blended into his small-scale, delicate paintings of fantasy and satire. Klee’s art was also distinguished by an extraordinary diversity…

The Joy of Drawing: The Doodles of Great Masters

    August 29, 2016 / 1 Comment

In a way, the sketch is one of the purest elements to art – the first inklings of the idea to something great, and at times the most raw and intense aspect. Painters, sculptors and even contemporary multi-media artists will often lay down their visions on a simple pen and paper production. As a powerful and beloved medium, drawings are the skeleton to an artwork and have influenced and changed artists’ lives. Most artists will sketch an idea out, often multiple times to get everything right. Unless you’re Bob Ross, and then you just go for it because there are no mistakes in your world. But these sketches, quick or…

    May 9, 2016 / 0 Comments

Lumière sur Paul Klee. “Ichtus Sanctus”, saint parmi les siens.

    April 1, 2016 / 0 Comments

KLEE AND AGUÉLI: FRIENDS OF LIGHT

    January 21, 2016 / 0 Comments

Klee and Aguéli are two names you would not normally write in the same sentence. However, the Moderna Museet in Stockholm has just opened an exhibition where these two painters are looked at in the same light. And this is precisely the element of affinity the museum has found between the German and the Swedish. Their travels in the north of Africa, their shocking encounters with the light of this continent, and the spirituality which ensued the life-changing experience: in the form of colour adoption and realisation of the self for the former, and in the shape of religious conversion and language acquisition for the latter. Obsessed by colour. This…
