Faszination eines Berges
Im Jahr 1830 befindet sich ein Mann um die 70 Jahre in der näheren Umgebung eines gewaltigen Vulkans, von dessen Anblick er fasziniert ist. So beginnt dieser Mann, ein Künstler, der seine Bilder selbst mit „der vom Zeichnen Besessene“ unterschreibt, in mehreren Serien diesen Berg – Wahrzeichen und Sinnbild eines ganzen Landes – festzuhalten. Sein Name: Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849), einer der bekanntesten Ukiyo-e-Künstler Japans. Ukiyo-e kann im Deutschen mit „Bilder der fließenden Welt“ übersetzt werden. Zwischen 1830 und 1832 fertigt Hokusai erstmals eine Serie von Ukiyo-e mit dem Titel Fugaku sanjūrokkei (Die sechsunddreißig Ansichten des Berges Fuji) an. Einerseits ein tief verankertes, menschliches Grundbedürfnis, das uns alle vereint,und andererseits eines der wohl rätselhaftesten und unerklärlichsten Phänomene im Universum. Die Auffassungen darüber, was wir unter Liebe verstehen dürfen, könnten kaum weiter auseinander gehen. Dies mag nicht zuletzt an den vielfältigen Ausprägungen liegen, in denen uns diese auf geistiger, körperlicherund seelischer Anziehung beruhende Emotion begegnet. Denn die Annahme, dass sich Liebe allein auf zwischenmenschliche Gefühlsbeziehungen beschränkt, ist weit gefehlt. A mind free of ignorance, greed, and hatred – peaceful and drama-free sounds nearly too good to be true. However, this state of being is amongst the ideals of Buddhism and basing my opinion simply on those standards, I see no wrong. A Love-Letter to the Land of the Rising Sun
For those of us who have never been to Japan, we can only picture the beautiful vista of the Land of the Rising Sun with the help of popular films such as Memoirs of a Geisha, Babel, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, Lost in Translation, and The Last Samurai. For me, it was Memoirs of a Geisha which truly began my love affair with Japan. (Although, Tom Cruise did give it his best effort!)
