Shelley’s Art Musings – The Follies of the ‘Sand’ Louvre, which acquired the Leonardo da Vinci painting at $450 million
The painting shows Jesus performing a benediction (an invocation of divine help, blessing and guidance, usually performed at the end of worship) with his right hand raised, in the left hand a crystal orb, representing his role as saviour of the world and mastery of the cosmos as well as the heavenly sphere. Jesus is shown in renaissance attire and is dated as painted around 1500.

When I think about William Blake, I instantly think of the film “Red Dragon” – you know the one where the character Francis Dolarhyde is obsessed with the painting and kills his family to try and gain the same strength as the creature depicted. The film was inspired by the book “Red Dragon” by Thomas Harris and was a lead into the Hannibal Lector stories. While this is where the majority of us will recognise the work from, Blake was more than just a painter, he was also a poet and a printmaker, who turned his back on formalised religion and created his own personal complex mythology. There are many historical events that have happened in November, on the 12th November 1944, 32 British Lancaster bombers finally sank the German battleship, the Tirpitz after 2 years of trying. On the same day in 1946 the first drive through bank was opened in the USA. Also, on this day in 1840 Auguste Rodin was born and would change the face of sculpture for those who would be set to follow. Das Jahr 2020 geht wirklich nur von einer schwierigen Situation zur nächsten, nicht wahr? Viele Veranstaltungen wurden abgesagt, das Potential der zweiten Welle des Coronavirus ist am Horizont. Es gab merkwürdiges Wetter, Proteste und politische Täuschungsmanöver, was alles zu einem Jahr wie kein anderes für alle weltweit beigetragen hat. Dies hat zum Glück die Kreativität und die von Herzen kommenden Aktionen nicht aufgehalten. Wir haben Menschen gesehen, die Schlüsselmitarbeiter feiern, sich in Einigkeit zusammenschließen, um Black Lives Matter zu unterstützen, und so viele Taten der Freundlichkeit, dass es Individuen zu der Erkenntnis gebracht hat, dass Menschen zu großen Dingen fähig sind, wenn wir aufhören, gegeneinander zu arbeiten. 2020, c’est vraiment passer d’une situation difficile à une autre, n’est-ce pas ? Beaucoup d’événements annulés, le potentiel de la deuxième vague de Coronavirus à l’horizon. Il y a eu des conditions météorologiques bizarres, des protestations et des bêtises politiques, ce qui a contribué à une année sans précédent pour tous dans le monde. Heureusement, cela n’a pas empêché la créativité et les actions sincères d’avoir lieu. Nous avons vu des gens célébrer des travailleurs clés, s’unir pour soutenir Black Lives Matter et tant d’actes de gentillesse que cela a fait prendre conscience aux individus que les humains sont capables de grandes choses si nous cessons de travailler les uns…
