No, it isn’t what you are thinking, it is the word on everyone’s lips at the moment… Coronavirus. You can barely turn on the TV or the radio or turn to social media without seeing adverts telling you to stay at home, or hearing the dire situation that the world is currently in. Heureusement, la Journée internationale de la femme, le 8 mars, n’a échappé à personne. Cette journée a été créée pour tenter de contribuer à l’éliminer la discrimination à l’égard des femmes dans le monde entier. Il est vraiment difficile de penser qu’à notre époque, cela existe encore, mais des actes horribles se produisent pourtant à l’égard des femmes dans le monde entier, mais la discrimination ne doit pas nécessairement être un acte horrible de grande envergure. Shelleys Kunstskandal – Frauen und die Kunstwelt – warum gibt es so wenige?
Hoffentlich ist es niemandem entgangen, dass am 8. März der Internationale Frauentag stattfand. Dieser Tag wurde geschaffen, um zu versuchen, die Diskriminierung von Frauen auf der ganzen Welt zu überwinden. Es ist wirklich schwer zu glauben, dass es so etwas heutzutage noch gibt, aber es geschehen weiterhin schreckliche Verbrechen gegenüber Frauen auf der ganzen Welt. Aber Diskriminierung muss nicht unbedingt aus großen schrecklichen Taten bestehen. Ich habe kürzlich ein Buch von Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie gelesen, mit dem Titel “Wir sollten alle Feministinnen sein,» in dem sie eine Situation beschreibt, in der sie einem Mann in Lagos, der ihr Auto parkt, ein Trinkgeld gibt. Hopefully, it didn’t escape anyone’s attention that it was International Women’s Day on the 8th March. This day has been created to try and help eliminate discrimination against women across the world. It is really hard to think that in this day and age that this still exists, but horrendous acts still happen towards women all over the world, but discrimination doesn’t have to be large awful acts. Well… It’s been a while, hasn’t it… since I last wrote about scandalous art, so I thought I would make my come back with a big bang and investigate one of the most notorious and provocative paintings. We are now in an age, where we, thankfully, are becoming increasingly aware of consent, trying to stamp out acts against minors and ensuring adequate processes are in place to protect those who are not of an age to make decisions for themselves with clarity. There are some people out there who feel that art has a healing quality, whether it be for the artist or the audience, this can be through a series of techniques working from art therapy to the exploration of taboo subjects. Anselm Kiefer definitely works to the latter. His art uses a series of combined themes and images which explore some very tragic historical events. Shelley’s Scandal of the Month – Spotlight on Damien Hirst.
Some artists are notoriously controversial in whatever they do, be it their artwork itself, or the way they interact with the public. Damien Hirst appears to have both of these areas covered, and this is his selling point. Before I saw an exhibition of Hirst’s work, I am happy to admit that I wasn’t a fan, as I felt that his work was quite crass and showy. My opinion changed on actually seeing the work.
