    Numerosi sono gli artisti che hanno realizzato il loro autoritratto. Narcisistici ? Magari. Chi potrebbe essere il migliore modello che se stesso ? Dall’invenzione dello specchio nel cinquecento, gli artisti hanno comminciato ad osservarsi e dipingersi, benchè il termo “autoritratto” dia dal diciannovesimo secolo. Come un’autobiografia, l’autoritratto rivela qualcosa dell’artista, la sua identità, soprattutto una rappresentazione di lui che ci da a noi, contemporanei, un’immagine precisa del suo fisico.  Personalmente devo dire che amo poter mettere una faccia a un’artista sul quale sto lavorando.     Un artista, bueno o malo, no deja de retratarse nunca. Da igual que pinte un bodegón, escriba unos versos o toque estos acordes o aquellos: cada obra de arte es un resumen más o menos explícito de una manera de ver el mundo. De igual modo, cuando un buen pintor -o fotógrafo, o escultor- retrata a alguien, debe esforzarse por hacer de su representación una suerte de resumen biográfico. Sin contar con las facilidades descriptivas del escritor, el artista plástico debe, ante todo, volver visible el ser profundo del retratado, o sea, lograr casi lo imposible: que, al mirarlo, uno sienta empatía hacia un total desconocido.

    Frida Kahlo è un’artista che mi tocca profondamente per due raggioni : la prima, perché le sue opere sono ispirate da lei stessa e dei fatti personali della sua vita che non poteva esternare altremente che dipingendo. Sono umane e ne rissorte qualcosa di estremamente forte che porte a chiedersi, ma perchè ? Perché dipinge opere cosi nere, surrealiste, perché lo sguardo dei suoi autoritratti trasmette sempre tristezza ? (Ecco il mio sentimento la prima volta che ho scoperto il suo arte).
