It has been just under a month since we have seen the doors of the Louvre Abu Dhabi open with its fantastic structure, but the reception has been not quite so impressive. Visitors have remarked that there doesn’t seem to be enough content within the corridors of the venture to fulfil its monumental name. I am sure that this comes as quite a blow as the mammoth project has been fraught with controversy and delays. On feeding my sole obsession
As a kid in suburban Ohio, I grew up thinking that high heels represented adult sophistication and feminine glamour. Against my mother’s wishes, I was wearing them to school by early 2000’s. Similarly to Cher in “Clueless,” I would totter the corridors between periods in platform wedges and lace-up heels. At that point, I was experimenting with turtle necks and studded skirts—so I can’t really speak to exactly who I was trying to impress or why these were my chosen fashion statements, as much as I knew I wanted feel a little more grown-up. Hebt man dann endlich ab, wird es aber auch nicht besser. Die typischen Beschäftigungen während eines Fluges – nur halb die schon tausend mal gehörten Sicherheitsanweisungen verfolgen, einen kurzen Blick in die in den Vordersitz geklemmten Hefte werfen, die überteuerten Verkaufsangebote so gut es geht ignorieren und das kaum zu erschmeckende Essen genießen – werden so oft zu den spannendsten Momenten eines Langstreckenfluges.…

Art at your fingertips
Moving from painting to painting, I counted the steps I needed to make before reaching the exit. Slower, I thought, don’t walk so quickly. And so I stopped at the painting before me, cocked my head, and pretended to absorb the beauty. Art had never been easy to understand. Imagery, history, and emotion compressed onto a canvas, expressed only though colors and strokes. Yet I found myself visiting a museum with two art enthusiasts, who, every few minutes, would proudly shriek “Oh how I love this painting!” and gush over the skillful technique and the elegant brushstrokes. Frau Antje lädt zum Kunstgenuss
„So viele Länder, so wenig Zeit!“ Auch Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821) trug scheinbar jenes Virus in sich, das alljährlich – spätestens zu Beginn der Sommermonate – breitenwirksam um sich greift und dabei ganze Stadtbezirkeleer zu fegen scheint: das gemeine“febris itineris“, besser auch als „Reisefieber“ bekannt. Bricht wegen des Hitzestaus im Büro unter den Kollegen ein erbitterter Kampf um den Platz am Ventilator aus? Und bleibt betriebsurlaubsbedingtnicht einmal mehr der Lieblingsbiergarten als Fluchtmöglichkeit? Spätestens dann ist es wohl an der Zeit, die Koffer zu packen und die Reise in Richtung Süden anzutreten. Nicht einmal die Wechseljahre sind den Männern als rein weibliches Phänomen heilig. Die Midlife-Crisis, mittlerweile auch in Studien belegt, ist das männliche Pendant zu den Wechseljahren und der Menopause. Zwischen dem 40. und 55. Lebensjahr kann es passieren, dass er den sicheren Job an den Nagel hängt, um sich noch einmal selbst zu verwirklichen. Yogakurse und die jüngere Geliebte gehören ebenso zum neuen Alltag wie das Motorrad in der Garage, die neue Lederjacke oder die Haartönung.
