Peintre du postimpressionnisme, illustrateur de l’Art nouveau et remarquable lithographe, il a croqué le mode de vie de la Bohème parisienne à la fin du XIXe siècle.

    Edward Hopper est né en 1882 à New York. Il est élevé dans un cadre familial confortable et est un bon élève, montrant les premiers signes d'être un artiste à l'âge de 5 ans. Ses parents l'ont encouragé, le gardant dans les fournitures et le matériel d'apprentissage pour affiner ses compétences. En 1899, il commence un cours d'art par correspondance et est bientôt transféré à l'école d'art et de design de New York. Il y étudie pendant 6 ans la peinture à l'huile, s'inspire de Manet et de Degas, mais trouve choquant de dessiner à partir de modèles vivants.

    Edward Hopper wurde 1882 in New York geboren. Er wuchs in einem komfortablen Familienumfeld auf und war ein guter Schüler, der bereits im Alter von 5 Jahren erste Anzeichen eines Künstlers zeigte. Seine Eltern förderten ihn und sorgten dafür, dass er mit Material versorgt wurde, um seine Fähigkeiten zu verbessern. Im Jahr 1899 begann er ein Fernstudium der Kunst und wechselte bald darauf an die New Yorker Schule für Kunst und Design. Er studierte dort 6 Jahre lang Ölmalerei, ließ sich von Manet und Degas inspirieren, fand es aber schockierend, nach lebenden Modellen zu zeichnen.

    Edward Hopper was born in 1882 in New York. He was brought up in a comfortable family setting as was a was a good student, showing the early signs of being an artist at the age of 5. His parents encouraged this, keeping him in supplies and learning material to hone his skills. In 1899 he started a correspondence course in art and soon transferred to the New York school of art and design. He studied there for 6 years learning about oil painting, he took inspiration from Manet and Degas, yet found it shocking to sketch from live models.
