Der Traum vom Orient
Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres provokantes Gemälde Das türkische Bad, das erstmals postum 1905 auf dem Salon de l’Automne zusehen war, erstaunte unter anderem den Maler Félix Vallotton und faszinierte ihn sofort. Das Meisterwerk des Neoklassizisten, einem Vorbild Vallottons, inspirierte ihn zu einer eigenen Interpretation des Gemäldes im Jahre 1907. In Vallottons Version sieht der Betrachter sechs nackte Frauen in einem gekachelten Dampfbad. Eine im Wasser stehende Rückenfigur trocknet sich gerade den Oberkörper, während eine weitere Person lasziv auf den Fliesen liegt und eine am rechten Bildrand sitzende Blondine, kurioserweise mit einem Dackel im Arm, scheinbar abwesend ins Leere starrt.
