Hans Holbein : la beauté à l’épreuve de la réalité
Il n’y a pas moins original que le thème de la Beauté dans l’Art. À croire qu’aucun modèle au physique difficile n’a jamais voulu se faire tirer le portrait. Il y en a pourtant, et ils semblent être fortement concentrés du côté de la Renaissance germanique, en particulier sous le pinceau d’Hans Holbein le Jeune (vers 1497-1543). Dans son tableau le plus célèbre, Les Ambassadeurs, les deux modèles ne semblent pas vraiment enchantés de poser pour le peintre. Ils ne sont pas très beaux, ont de l’embonpoint. Ear-chopping episode aside, sunflowers are probably one of the most iconic images associated with Vincent van Gogh. Beloved for their sunny, cheerful appearance and bold shapes, it has been estimated that around 5 million people see the artist’s paintings of these flowers every year. Van Gogh had previously painted pictures of dying sunflower heads during his time in Paris, in 1886-1888. Increasingly concerned with symbolism, he returned to colourful flowers when preparing for his fellow artist, Paul Gauguin, to come and stay with him in Arles. All at Sea
Think of Turner, and you think of the sea. Beaches, ports, sunrises, sunsets, raging storms, crashing waves and heavy battles, conjured up in a swirling mist of colour and light. You might be surprised to learn, then, that the National Maritime Museum’s current exhibition is in fact the first major one dedicated to this theme. Deutsche Künstler an den Höfen Europas
In der Renaissance waren viele Künstler nicht nur Meister ihres Fachs, sondern auch Mitglieder eines Standes, dem es gestattet war, mit der Herrscherelite der europäischen Länder in Kontakt zu treten. An den jeweiligen Höfen konnten sie sich zudem intensiv mit den Gelehrten der Zeit austauschen. Der 1471 in Nürnberg geborene Albrecht Dürer wird in diesem Zusammenhang als der typische Künstler der Renaissance im nördlichen Europa angesehen. Er malte nicht nur Kaiser Maximilian I., sondern auch Persönlichkeiten der deutschen Elite wie etwa Jakob Fugger. Tengo que reconocerlo, yo nunca he sido un gran fanático de la iglesia ni de los santos. De acuerdo, cuando era pequeño mi madre me obligaba a ir a misa todos los domingos y eso seguramente haya tenido mucho que ver con mi posterior alejamiento del santo camino (de la iglesia, no quiere esto decir que yo no sea una santa persona en el sentido secular de la palabra). No obstante, el estatismo y la falta de flexibilidad de sus planteamientos fue sin duda el factor detonante en mi ruptura con el ser supremo.
