African Art
Exhibition: Beyond Compare: Art from Africa Date: October 27, 2017 – December 31, 2019 Venue: Bode Museum, Berlin. Origin of the Negro Peoples of Africa It seems that the actual state of our knowledge does not permit us, as yet, to answer this question in a definitive or even a satisfactory manner. Undoubtedly, one would not have even asked the question if Africa were the only part of the world to possess Negroes. But such is not the case and without speaking, of course, of the countries where the advent of the Negro race has taken place only at a recent epoch, as the result of migrations which were generally…

Arcimboldo (Mega Square)
Arcimboldo (Mega Square) Author: Liana De Girolami Cheney If, as the famous saying goes, you really are what you eat, then Giuseppe Arcimboldo (1527-1593) was a consummate painter of the human soul. This artist was a master draftsman whose finely wrought canvases captured the imagination of his generation. In this fascinating book, Liana De Girolami Cheney takes a closer look at the critical history of Arcimboldo’s work, from his initial popularity and the tragic obscurity that followed his death, to the ventual triumphant revival of his work and vision by Surrealist admirers of the 1920s. Book specifications: Mega Square collection, 145 x 162 mm / 5.7 x 6.4 in., 256…

Art of India
India, a country full of myths and legends – or at least in the view of a Westerner. No doubt India has a fascinating culture, an interesting history, and a long tradition in the fine arts. But when it comes to thinking about India it is always the Taj Mahal we picture. For many a symbol of love beyond death, it should also be a symbol for miserable financing as its construction led to an empty treasury. The next big thing that comes to mind is the huge film industry of Bollywood which has gathered more and more fans around the world over the last years. With its dancing and…
