Exhibition: Moscow Throughout the Centuries

Marcel Lecomte: The secret chambers of surrealism
Date: October 13, 2017 to February 18, 2018 Venue: Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium From 1960 to 1966, Lecomte’s contribution in the Royal Museums of Fine Arts was much appreciated. Shortly after his death, his personal archives and library were handed to the Archives of Contemporary Art. The exhibition uncovers several of these documents, as well as works by artists and writers that were dear to him, photographs, items of his correspondence, some outstanding publications of the surrealist movement, film clips and radio recordings. From ancient history until the end of the 18th century, artwork was evaluated according to its content. The material from which the artwork was made played a subordinate role. The premise was that an idea in its most complete and ideal state is Pablo Picasso immaterial; thus, to a great extent, the material is secondary to the idea that it is helping the artist to express. Date: 12 November 2017 to 18 February 2018 Venue: Käthe-Kollwitz Museum Berlin Wieland Förster (born 1930) is one of the important German sculptors of the postwar period. He lived through the bombing of his home city of Dresden and was imprisoned at the infamous Lager Bautzen II as young man. These experiences imbued Förster’s work with suffering. The power of his work is shown in his ability to transcend these experiences and break free from clichés, a power that he and Kollwitz shared. Date: August 1, 2017 – October 31, 2017 Venue: National Palace Museum of Taiwan The National Palace Museum of Taiwan will display artworks in its collection featuring bears. Examples include a bear-shaped celadon lamp from the Wu to Western Jin period. In the Qing dynasty, there are also bear-shaped vessels in bronze and jade that demonstrate the Qianlong emperor’s innovative reworking of tradition based on an ancient Han dynasty bronze bear in his collection.
